If it's Mandarin Chinese you are interested in learning, you've come to the right place. Our Mandarin Chinese Language Program has something for everyone: from children to adults, school teachers to librarians, adopted children to adoptive parents, business men to computer programmers. Just about everyone today has a reason to learn Chinese. They aren't calling this the "Chinese century" just for the fun of it!
Our teachers are native speakers of the language they teach. We keep our classes small to provide you with the best learning experience possible. Traditional and simplified characters are taught, with a focus on correct pronunciation in the beginning classes. Both pinyin (the transliteration system used in mainland China) and bopomofo (the phonetic alphabet used in Taiwan) are used.
We also offer offsite programs for schools, businesses, government agencies in the greater Portland metropolitan area. One-on-one tutoring and special, private group classes are also available. Just ask!
When you learn Chinese with us, you're not just learning the Chinese language, you're also learning the culture: the Zhongguo wenhua.
As with all our language offerings, teachers are native speakers. The general profile of our teachers are educated, degreed professionals with at least 4 years of college. Some have masters degrees. A requirement for teaching at the center, however, is also that teachers be able to make learning fun and be able to communicate in English well when needed.
One-on-one tutoring and special, private group classes, interpretation and translation services are also available. Just ask!
