Mindfulness is a human ability we all possess to be calm and to experience the wonders of life. To be mindful means to dwell deeply in the present moment, to be aware of what is going on within and around us. Practicing mindfulness cultivates understanding, love, compassion, and joy. This practice helps us to take care of and transform suffering in our lives and in our society.
Our practice is based on the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and other mindfulness practitioners. We welcome people of all faiths who wish to find a place to rest and reexamine their daily lives. We also explore mindfulness practice as a way to help heal the interconnected forms of injustice and oppression, from global threats of militarism and environmental exploitation to everyday, habitual forms of racism, classism, sexism and other "isms" which cause such painful separations in our human society. In our conversations we share the questions, the challenges and the joys of our spiritual practice and social engagement.
We meet every Sunday evening from 7-9 pm. We practice mindfully sitting, walking, speaking and listening in order to cultivate seeds of awareness, joy and love in our everyday lives. You are invited to join us in practicing and experiencing this simple, ancient way of calming the mind and opening the heart. Our practice is free and open to all; however, donations to help pay for our rent and expenses are happily accepted.
New people are always welcome to our practice group. No previous experience is necessary. Our intention is to offer people of diverse backgrounds a safe, welcoming and participatory group where they can feel at home and in community. As a collaborative group, we encourage and actively seek participation by all members in offering topics, facilitating discussions and leading evenings of practice.
